Kimono for High Tea

Ever since going to Bury St. Edmund's for the first time almost 2 years ago and seeing Harriets Tea Room I always wanted to check it out. But I could never get a chance to go there. Well finally the time had come and today I went there for the first time with one of my friends :)

Currently I am on a kimono kick again thanks to the most recent Kimono de Jack in Birmingham and I figured this was a perfect opportunity to wear one. I also got the most awesome obi from April (technically traded it for something, we just haven't figured out what that "something" is lol). While at her house, everyone agreed that this obi was a perfect match for the kimono I recently received in the mail, and I was very anxious to see if it was true.

I am happy to report that it is true! The obi and kimono look great together!

Per my usual Lyuba self, I left the selection of accessories to the morning of. Overall I am happy, but I feel I need to change the haneri to lighter one (which is not going to  happen any time soon because I HATE sewing haneri on) or wear a darker obiage. The shoes also look much better than they felt lol. Actually it would have been better to have kimono a little shorter, just right above the shoes, for my overall comfort but I wasn't wearing any tights so I left it down. I don't like bare skin showing when I'm wearing boots you see.

I think I'm finally starting to figure out the mystery of obiage! It is not perfect right now, but I prefer a LOT of obiage showing so I'll just pretend like I meant it to look that way all along lol :)

And finally here is THE obi :) Isn't it gorgeous and totally my style? It got caught on a door handle when I was getting the camera and got messed up, but guess it also got crooked when I fixed it. I didn't notice until I saw the photos. I promise it looked much better when I was out for tea :)

I love this kimono :) It is such a nice addition to my striped kimono collection.

  2. No, Shigatsuhana from IG gave it to me and she bought it from Japan. Actually it's not going to be that hard to make. It's cotton, two sided with applique :)

  3. Oh wow, I love that obi!!! :D I have major problems with tying obiage...I think I might be slightly dyslexic, because I cannot for the life of me tie a square knot, even with the instructions in front of me! I get the ends all mixed up and my hands don't know where to go...

  4. LOL no I don't think you're dyslexic.... because it would me that I'm dyslexic too because I also have problem with tying obiage. Actually I was told that you don't really tie it, but fold it and fake a knot :) That's what I did above, and look at that, it actually looks decent! ;P :P
